Reporting any concerns about Houses In Multiple Occupation (HMO)

Any person who has a concern about a HMO can report this to the Council’s Private
Sector Housing Team by calling 01908 253271 or emailing:
privatesectorhousing@milton-keynes.gov.uk
This can be done in confidence, and the Council do not reveal the source that
alerted them to visit any particular property.

Every new notification of a HMO, which is not known to Milton Keynes Council, is
inspected.  All properties that are licensable are further inspected as part of the licensing
process.  If works are required, an informal schedule of works, including fire safety measures
where necessary, is issued.

If this is not complied with by the landlord, a formal improvement notice is issued.
For a formal notice a charge of £225 is imposed on the landlord. Failure to comply
with an improvement notice is a criminal offence.
