Juneau Projects workshop

On Friday, February 28, artists Ben and Phil from Juneau Projects joined our coffee morning to chat with residents about a nature-themed artwork project to be located at the pond on Burchard Crescent in Shenley Church End titled "Portrait of a Pond.". They were looking to raise awareness of the project and speak to local people about their ideas for the artwork.
The goal of the project is to craft a community-designed piece that celebrates the pond's rich wildlife. The artists would like residents to participate in workshops and contribute to shaping the artwork. This could involve creating something practical, like a hibernaculum (a shelter for hibernating amphibians), or an educational piece that showcases the life cycles of the pond's various species.
The coffee morning was the perfect place to explore this as the parish offices are just down the road from the pond and many of the people that come to the coffee morning live in the immediate area. The general feedback was very positive with some great conversations happening between the artists and locals.
After the coffee morning, Ben and Phil held a workshop where local residents had the opportunity to create and paint their own newt sculptures using wooden shapes to make unique and colourful art pieces to take home.
In addition to the workshops, they plan activities such as pond dipping and learning opportunities from wildlife experts. Keep an eye out on our website and Facebook for dates and to find out more!
Workshops will be announced on the project web page
