A few weeks ago we talked about an issue we were having with some of the dog bins in the parish in our article Don't dump your dog waste!
Due to the ongoing issue with large plastic bags and bin bags of dog waste being left at dog bin 23, Wannamaker Gardens, Oxley Park, the bin has now had to be removed.
The contractors are no longer willing to service the bin at that location due to the continued misuse. Unbelievably and unfortunately still within hours of the bin being removed dog waste bags were left around the post, as you can see in the photo on the left.
Please do not do this, the bags will not be collected and are in fact considered fly tipping.
Again, we ask everyone to refrain from putting bags of dog waste from home around the dog waste bins. This can present health risks for both humans and pets, and they won’t be picked up when the bins are emptied.
Dog poo is not only smelly and unpleasant, it really is dangerous. Whilst it's rare, contact with dog waste can cause a nasty infection called toxocariasis that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures!
Filling the bins with a large amount of dog waste also causes an issue as the bags are often too heavy to pick up for the collector, meaning they are unable to empty the bin, leaving it full for other dog walkers.
Alternative bins are still available for dog walkers, and waste from your home should always be disposed of in your black bin.
Don't forget you can pick up dog waste bags from the parish office and you can see the map of available dog bins here:
